Our Community – Local Information
Declared a townsite in 1815 and a city in 1885 Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland settlement and as such was an important regional centre and gateway for much of the exploration and development that took place in inland New South Wales. This process was accelerated in 1851 by the discovery in the region of Australia’s first payable gold. As a result, the city has a strong heritage reinforced by a rich culture with both historic and contemporary components.
Bathurst boosts a population of 39,339 (2009) which represents a 1.2% growth from the previous year.
Evocities
In an Australian first, seven of NSW’s leading regional cities have united to form the Evocities campaign and encourage people to live, work and invest in an Evocity.
The seven Evocities are Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth and Wagga Wagga.
Each of the seven cities has dedicated resources and funding to the campaign, and has in turn secured Australian Government funding, as well as support from the NSW State Government and corporate sponsors.
The main objective of the campaign is to encourage capital city residents to make the move to an Evocity and invest in the opportunities the cities have to offer. Moving to an
Evocity is not a sea change, not a tree change but a CITY CHANGE.
The campaign will showcase the abundance of opportunities in these regional cities due to their lower cost of living, strong career and business opportunities and enhanced lifestyle. Living in an Evocity means less time commuting, working and stressing, and more time for you and your family to enjoy NSW’s beautiful natural surrounds.
NEW STATE GOVERNMENT REGIONAL RELOCATION GRANT OFFERS $7,000 INCENTIVE TO MOVE TO AN EVOCITY
We are excited to able to tell you that the prospect of a move to Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth or Wagga Wagga just got even more attractive, with the announcement of the State Government’s new Regional Relocation Grants program.
Under the program, Sydney families who sell their home and relocate to regional NSW – including all seven of the Evocities – will receive a $7,000 grant.
Once you have sold in Sydney, you need to buy a principal place of residence in regional NSW (up to the value of $600,000).
Unfortunately, at this stage, the Grants do not extend to people relocating from Sydney who are not currently homeowners; however we are hopeful the NSW Government will consider this in the future.
